Upon completion of the program, School Psychology graduates will develop skills in the following areas: Scholarly inquiry, research, writing and presentation skills Application of critical analysis and inquiry to existing research and the ability to identify, select, implement and evaluate evidence-based practices.
Sensitivity to ecological, diverse and developmental considerations and concern for client preferences Exposure and supervised experience with diverse populations, conditions, professionals, settings and procedures. Understanding of the scientist-practitioner model which emphasizes an integrated, hierarchical sequence of coursework, practica, internship and research experiences.
Students in the School Psychology Program will be prepared to become licensed doctoral-level health service psychologists, who can work effectively with children and families. The School Psychology Doctoral Program at SFA embraces a scientist-practitioner model of training in which practice, research and theory are considered integrated components. The emphasis is on developing competencies necessary for functioning in diverse settings including public, private schools and clinical practices.

Practitioner : The practitioner is expected to demonstrate a high level of expertise in the professional practice of psychology in the state of Texas. The School Psychology Doctoral degree program Ph. This means that the three years of the specialist degree program are embedded into the 6 years of the PhD. During the third year, PhD students may begin their doctoral course of study and simultaneously complete their Educational Specialist level internship.
